Through legislation, we work to pass laws that reduce shelter killing, such as those that make it illegal to kill animals when qualified rescue groups are willing to save them.
Through litigation, we work to protect animals and those who care about them, such as defending rescuers and volunteers who have been wrongfully “fired” or banned from pounds for speaking out against abuse.
Through advocacy, we work to educate the public and government officials about the programs and services of the No Kill Equation.
We also directly assist shelter directors and shelter reformers to succeed.
Finally, we rescue needy animals and provide them with a safe and loving home.
But as corrupt national “animal protection” organizations increasingly turn their backs on the animals, the number of pounds across the country falling back into old patterns of behavior — including killing or closing their doors to animals in need — is increasing. At the same time, the number of people in communities across the country requesting our assistance is likewise growing, but our donations and attorney resources have not kept pace. As a result, we are stretched very thin. Tragically, this means we increasingly have to say “we can’t” instead of “yes” when reformers in those communities ask for our help holding local pounds accountable.
That is one reason we created 30 free step-by-step guides to empower rescuers and advocates to reform their local pound. They cover political advocacy, litigation, and more. We also have additional resources for self-help, including peer-to-peer strategizing with reformers who succeeded and other tools, like The No Kill Companion.
Despite these resources, which are available to everyone — or in the case of The No Kill Companion, soon will be — we would like to say “Yes!” to requests for assistance in reforming communities more often. Indeed, we want to say “Yes” to every request.
Would you help us?
Together, not only will we save lives, we will create a future where every animal will be respected and cherished and where every individual life will be protected and revered.
